Christmas “grinch”

Meade County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Bryan Rogers truly felt the spirit of Christmas Dec. 11 following the annual Fraternal Order of Police “Shop With A Cop” event.

Rogers helped four deserving kids find toys and warm clothes for the winter during the event.
Imagine the wave of emotion he faced when he learned the mother of the children had returned the gifts for cash the following day. Rogers said he was both angry that an adult would steal Christmas from a child, and saddened the presents given through the generosity of the community, via the F.O.P., had been taken away.

The returned gifts were exchanged for $104.33.

After consulting with the county attorney and the district court judge, a warrant for theft by deception under $300 was issued for the suspect, 28-year-old Amanda J. Beard, Brandenburg.

She was taken into custody Dec. 17 and lodged in the Meade County Jail. Beard was released on a $500 partially secured bond, and scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 22 in Meade District Court.
Court records show Beard has used several aliases, including, “Amanda Jo Biddle,” “Amanda Jo McEwen,” and “Amanda J. Mills.”

Beard has been previously charged with seven speeding citations, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, 4th degree assault domestic violence, three probation violations, and four counts of theft by deception under $300.
