MARY PENNINGTON ALLEN

Mary Pennington Allen, Lexington, died Oct. 17, 2006.

She graduated from Union College with a bachelors degree in education and a master’s degree in education from the University of Kentucky. She was an accomplished vocalist and a retired teacher of the Fayette County Schools, having taught music and English for 31 years at Tates Creek Middle, Meade County High School and in Mt. Vernon, Ind.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, William J. Allen; two daughters, Elizabeth Jane (Joseph) Hudson, Lexington, and Annette Allen, Brandenburg; two grandchildren, Christian Sweet and Stephanie (John) Crosier, all of Brandenburg; three great-grandchildren Will, Sumner and Joseph Crosier; a brother, Dr. Kenneth G. (Helen) Pennington, Moncks Corner, S.C., a sister Annette Walden, Pineville; and a niece, Lisa Montgomery, Charleston, S.C.

A memorial service will be held Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. from Trinity United Methodist Church, Tates Creek Pike, Lexington. Friends may call from 2-3 p.m. Internment will be in Cap Anderson Cemetery in Brandenburg at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society and Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.
