Wesley H. Cowley, 99, Vine Grove, died March 28, 2007, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1933. He served in the Army during World War II and retired from the U. S. Army Reserves as a colonel. He also retired from civil service at Fort Knox as the deputy post engineer after 35 years of service. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Vine Grove United Methodist Church and served Vine Grove and Hardin County in various civic organizations. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edythe Arms Cowley; a daughter, Maud Emma Irwin; a sister, Margaret Montgomery; and a brother, William Eugene Cowley. Mr. Cowley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret “Sis” and Don Jones, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Wesley Herman and Gina Cowley, Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Stephen Irwin, Scott Irwin, Sean Irwin, Wesley Cowley Jr., Matthew Cowley, Wesley Stuart Jones, Shannon Lagarde, Sarah Jones, Caroline Krotzer and Jessica Cowley; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Margie Cowley. Funeral services were held April 1 from Vine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Sam Willis officiating. Burial was in the Garnettsville Cemetery, Muldraugh, directed by Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, Vine Grove.
