MARIE ELDER NEWBY Marie Elder Newby, 87, Hardinsburg, died May 4, 2007, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was born June 20, 1919, in Breckinridge County, the daughter of the late Hubert and Modessa Beavin Elder. She was a retired teacher and member of St. Romuald Catholic Church and Breckinridge County Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Newby; two brothers, Johnny and Raphael Elder; and two sisters, Marion Hancock and Lucille Cockrell. Mrs. Newby is survived by three sisters, Eloise Hendrickson, Payneville, Odell Miller, Sun City, Fla., and Bernice Powell, Edmon, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held May 8 at 1 p.m. from St. Romuald Catholic Church with Father Tony Bickett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, directed by Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home May 7, 3-8 p.m., and after 8:30 a.m. May 8. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Romuald Church, Relay for Life and Breckinridge Memorial Hospital Foundation.
