Robert “Lamar” Staples, 83, died July 3, 2007, at his home in Brandenburg. He was born April 26, 1924, in Payneville. He was a United States Navy veteran of WWII where he served on the USS Dennis J. Buckley in the Pacific, a retired electrician from Fort Knox, and a farmer from the Payneville area. He had many hobbies, which included farming, woodworking, hunting, trapping, fishing, reading, and most of all spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Lillian Greenwell Staples; two sons, James Robert and Ronnie Staples; and brothers and sisters, Joseph, Pearl, Velma, Albert, Geneva, Roy, Willie Lee, Omal, Dentis, Garland and Jake. Mr. Staples is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine Dodson Staples; a daughter, Patty (Kelly) Fackler, Panama City, Fla.; two sons, Harold (Rhonda) Staples, Owensboro, and Michael (Beth) Staples, Radcliff; five grandchildren, Casandra (Ryan) Carsey, Troy, Ohio; Jennifer (Tom) Cloutier, Wylie, Texas; Katie Staples, Owensboro; Andrea Staples, Brandenburg; Darrell Gaza Staples, Radcliff; and one great-grandchild, Keagan Carsey, Troy, Ohio. Funeral Mass will be held July 6 at 11 a.m. from St. Mary Magdalen Church in Payneville. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdalen Church Cemetery, directed by Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home July 5, 1-9 p.m., and after 8 a.m. July 6. Prayers will be held at 7 p.m. July 5 from the funeral home.
