Sgt. Maj. (retired) John Barry Shepard Jr., 74, Radcliff, died Aug. 19, 2007, at Kindred Hospital, Louisville. He retired from the U. S. Army after serving two tours in Vietnam; he was the recipient of both the silver and bronze stars. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Radcliff. Sgt. Maj. Shepard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eun Jun Shepard; four daughters and their spouses, Elizabeth and Dr. Michael Uhde, West Harrison, Ind., Rosemary and Ralph Irwin, Bowling Green, Sandra and Tom Schuck, Lawrenceville, Ga., and JoAnn and Dr. Robert Metz, Louisville, KY; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Rica Shepard, of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, April and Ryan Irwin, Rudy and Eric Uhde, Blake and Scott Schuck, Braden and Skyler Shepard; a brother, Philip W. Shepard; and three sisters, Madeline Vounce, Carolyn M. Paquette and Patricia Lyden. There will be a private funeral service with Rev. Dennis L. Cousens officiating. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff with military honors, directed by Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.nebfh.com.
