Lester J. Dowell, 85, Irvington, died Sept. 30, 2007, at Norton Hospital. He was born May 2, 1922, in Freedom (Breckinridge County), the son of Richard and Ersula Jones Dowell. He was a farmer, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Irvington Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing baseball for the Irvington Dodgers in the ’40s and was a hunter. Mr. Dowell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Panny” Dowell; two daughters, Jo Ann (Adrian) Basham, Irvington, and Janice (Jeff) Williams, Corydon, Ind.; two grandchildren, Melanie Sutton and Chris Basham; and three sisters, Juanita Taylor, Mary Richard Johnson and Lula Marian Bandy, all of Irvington. Funeral services will be held Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. EDT from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Oct. 2 after 3 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Oct. 3.
