JOSEPHINE SHELMAN

Josephine Shelman, 88, Louisville, formerly of Rhodelia, died Jan. 27, 2007, at Louisville Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born Jan. 8, 1919, the daughter of the late John Edgar and Mary Lena Hardesty Flaherty.

She was a lifetime member of St. Theresa Church in Rhodelia, a poll worker for the Breckinridge County Board of Elections for many years and a member of the Altar Society of St. Theresa Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Shelman; her son, Larry Shelman; her son-in-law, Ted Kerns; a grandson, Michael Morgan; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Hylemon.

Mrs. Shelman is survived by 10 children, Penny (Bill) Rannebarger, Radcliff, Bill (Jean) Shelman, Brooks, Carol Kerns, Vine Grove, Terry (Rita) Shelman, Carlisle, Pa., and Gene Shelman and Stan Shelman, both of Louisville, Lynn (Linda) Shelman, Brandenburg, Gary (Judy) Shelman, San Antonio, Texas, John (Jane) Shelman, Omaha, Neb., and Chuck (Becky) Shelman, Ekron; her daughter-in-law, Betty Shelman, Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Mary Ray, Alberta Curl and Anita Dempler, all of Louisville; a sister-in-law, Jewell Shelman, Hardinsburg; a brother, John Flaherty, Louisville; 31 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. from St. Theresa Church in Rhodelia with Rev. Al Wilson and Rev. Bob Abel officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home Jan. 29, 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., and after 8 a.m. Jan. 30. Prayer services will be held Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. from the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Bill Shelman, Terry Shelman, Gene Shelman, Lynn Shelman, Gary Shelman and Stan Shelman.
