James Earl Barnes, 60, Radcliff, died Feb. 8, 2007, at his residence. He was a retired master sergeant of the United States Army. He had three tours of duty in Vietnam that included the Tet Offensive and the Cambodian Campaign. Various honors included three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Masonic Pyramid Lodge, Vilsek, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tumie and Gertrude Barnes, Oneonta, Ala.; and his father-in-law, Charlie Short Jr. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 23 years, Charlene Barnes, Radcliff; a son, James Jones, Austin, Texas; a stepson, Grady Chicosky, Austin, Texas; a grandson, James Jones, Kissimee, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Geneva Short, Radcliff; a brother-in-law and dear friend, Gary Short, Radcliff; a sister-in-law, Kim Short (Scott) Brown, Lexington; three nephews, Alexander, Elijah and Jared; a niece, Bailey; special friends, Charles and Linda Futtrell; three aunts, Annie Ruth, Atlanta, Ga., Mary Lou Buice, Gadston, Ala., and Plummie Breshear, Birmingham, Ala.; several cousins; and five loyal companions Nekita, Pepper, Lucy, Simon and Petie. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 from the chapel of Coffey & Chism Funeral Home, Vine Grove, with Pastor Larry Vickers officiating.
