WILLIAM M. ‘BILL’ STURGEON

William M. ‘Bill’ Sturgeon, 85, McQuady, died Feb. 21, 2007, at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown. He was born Sept. 22, 1921, in Rome, Ind., the son of the late William Harrison Sturgeon and Florence Bolin Sturgeon.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of English Baptist Church, and a retired farmer who enjoyed baseball, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marion Lee Sturgeon.

Mr. Sturgeon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Brown Sturgeon; seven daughters, Betty (Joe) Sturgeon, Owensboro, Linda Whitworth, Hardinsburg, Margie (Joe) Ammons, McQuady, Doris Dupin, Elizabethtown, Diana (Randal) Mercer, Leitchfield, Patricia (Aubert) Freeman, Mt. Washington, and Billie Sue (Greg) Hodges, Vine Grove; two sons, Gordon (Brenda) Sturgeon, Leitchfield, and Wayne (Susie) Sturgeon, Bardstown; a son-in-law, J.C. Dupin, Leitchfield; a sister, Mildred (Tommy) Schaeffer, Tell City, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with Rev. Ken Stiff officiating. Burial will be in the English Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by Hardinsburg VFW Post 5831. Friends may call at the funeral home Feb. 23, 3-8 p.m., and after 8:30 a.m. Feb. 24.
