ROY MORTON BANDY

Roy Morton Bandy, 86, Irvington, died March 17, 2007, at home. He was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Breckinridge County, the son of the late Guy Roy and Annie Mary Bandy.

He worked at the American Tobacco Company in Louisville. An accomplished fiddle player, he and his band performed daily on WAVE radio. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, five Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned home, married Thelma Louise Haynes and made his living as a farmer, earning the Master Conservationist Award in 1978. He was a lifetime member of Bewleyville United Methodist Church, serving as lay leader and was a past member of the board. With his band, the Red Hill Ramblers, he performed regularly at the Meade County Senior Citizens Center and weekly performances at the Blue Grass Barn Dance in Vine Grove for 17 years.

Mr. Bandy is survived by two children, Mary Jane (Pat) Henderson, Irvington, R.L. (Martha) Bandy, Lexington and Hong Kong; two grandchildren, Jay Patrick Henderson, Irvington, and Mary Elizabeth Turner, Louisville; a brother, Jesse Bandy, Louisville; in-laws, Wanda Haynes Scott, Irvington, Lucy Haynes Board and L.D. (Raewanda) Haynes, Fairdale; and a dear friend and companion, Agnes Elnora Doyle.

Funeral services will be held March 21 at 11 a.m. from Bewleyville United Methodist Church, directed by Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington. Friends may call at the funeral home March 20, 3-8 p.m., and March 21, 9-11 a.m., at the church prior to the service.
