William E. Barnes, 86, Battletown, died April 20, 2008, at his residence. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the Meade Memorial VFW. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Barnes and Julie Barnes. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Bennett Barnes, Battletown; three children, Brenda Polston, Louisville, Sherry Hilde, Battletown, and Bonnie (Doug) Embry, Webster; three sisters, Beulah Whelan and Aliene Kessler, both of West Point, and Dorothy Wheatley, Valley Station; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held April 23 at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Hager Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bethany Memorial Gardens, Louisville.
