1ST. SGT. LYLE F. STRAIN

1st. Sgt. Lyle F. Strain, 89, Radcliff, and Elizabethtown, died May 17, 2008, in Elizabethtown. He was born Nov. 11, 1918, in Byron, Minn.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1966 in the Medical Corps. A veteran of World War II, his tours took him to India, Germany, Japan and various posts in the United States. After retiring from the military, he worked and retired from civil service on Fort Knox. His memberships and interests included Master Mason, Camp Knox Masonic Lodge #919; Order of Eastern Star #439 where he was past Worthy Patron; a Boy Scout leader; Kentucky Colonels; and the Post Chapel, Fort Knox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Leona Strain; a brother, Kenny Strain; and a sister, Mary Lou Strain.

1st. Sgt. Strain is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Margaret Strain, Radcliff; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. (Doris) Strain, Sugar Land, Texas; four brothers, James Strain and Rollo (Betty) Strain, both of Byron, Minn., Gerald (Loraine) Strain, Gilman City, Mo., and Tom (Mary Jo) Strain, Millville, Minn.; and four sisters, Marcella Bale, Rosemary Lutzi, Patricia (Chuck) Strain and Alyce DeYoung, all of Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held May 21 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, Radcliff, with Chaplain James Rayburn and Chaplain James M. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, with military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home May 20, 6-8 p.m., and after 10 a.m. May 21. There will be a Masonic service May 20 at 7 p.m. from the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the donor’s favorite charity or the National Kidney Foundation.
