HELEN JEAN KERSEY Helen Jean Kersey, 76, Radcliff, died July 30, 2008, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness. A native of Harrison County, Ky., she had lived in Radcliff for 36 years. She attended Asbury College in Wilmore, majoring in missions and child development. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and currently a member of Stovall United Methodist Church where she held several positions including lay leader; conference delegate; and member of the administrative board. She was a former member of Vine Grove Order of Eastern Star #122. She and her husband owned and operated the former Stoney’s Grocery in Radcliff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie and Fannie Bates; and two brothers, Joseph and Charles Bates. Mrs. Kersey is survived by her husband of 54 years, Walter Jake Kersey; two daughters, Pamela (Doug) Bell, Augusta, Ga., and Stephanie Kersey, Louisville; two sons, Michael (Denise) Kersey, Rineyville, and Lt. Col. Steven (Angela) Kersey, Louisville; nine grandchildren, Jan (Seth) Easton, Leah, Leslie and Jacob Bell, all of Augusta, Ga.; Julian, Rachel and Nina Kersey, all of Rineyville; and Isabella and Lauren Kersey, both of Louisville; and three brothers, Robert Bates and Kenneth Bates, Hinton, and Wallace Bates, Florence. Funeral services were held Aug. 2 from Stovall United Methodist Church, Radcliff, with Rev. Carline Brown and Rev. Ken Jessee officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, Radcliff.
