NORMAN W. ‘PAPPY’ LINGERFELT

Norman W. “ Pappy” Lingerfelt, 88, Brandenburg, formerly of Tonopah, Ariz., died Aug. 5, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Chattanooga, Tenn., the son of the late Thomas Hardin and Viola Jane Johnson Lingerfelt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Lingerfelt, and all of his siblings.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and prisoner of war of World War II where he saw combat in Europe. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with One Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also a truck driver for a septic tank service.

Mr. Lingerfelt is survived by a daughter, Norma J. (James) Coy, Shepherdsville; two sons, Jimmy R. (Judy) Lingerfelt, Brandenburg, and Edward L. Lingerfelt, Maumee, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his dog of 10 years, Mitzi.

The family chose cremation. His remains will be interred in Phoenix, Ariz., on Sept. 10 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona next to his wife Mary. Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
