Senior Citizens Center celebrates Christmas with spirit
By KAREN KENNEDY About 100 people showed up and shook a leg at the Meade County Senior Citizens Center Ball held Dec. 19. Classic Country Band was there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., playing a variety of great music that got people out of their seats and onto the floor. Food was prepared and donated by a variety of people, with plenty of Christmas goodies available for sampling. Leonard Knear, who frequents the center, brought lots of vegetables from his garden. Knear, who lives in Elizabeth, Ind., shares his homegrown vegetables with the other seniors on a regular basis. On Dec. 21, a second Christmas celebration was held with Jay Henderson and his band donating their music free from 10 a.m. to noon. Henderson rents the Senior Citizens Center on Friday nights and donates his profits to the center every month there is a fifth Friday. Everyone brought a covered dish to the Dec. 21 party and enjoyed both eating and singing Christmas songs. Jay Henderson is also planning to hold a New Year’s Eve party at the center. Senior Citizen Center director Sondra Hinton, who is relatively new to the job, is pleased with how things have been going at the center. Numbers of participants are on the rise, said Hinton, with about 110 people visiting the center on a regular basis each month. “We’re getting a lot of new people,” said Hinton. It’s not only Meade County people who visit the center, but seniors also come from Hardin, Breckinridge, Harrison and Jefferson counties. Click Here to Go Back
