Keith Carter bowls to perfection
Keith Carter, Webster, continued the string of perfect games being rolled lately at Lynn’s Pins by bowling his first career 300 game Dec. 18. His 12 strikes came during the first game on the Monday Night Mixed League. He finished the night with scores of 232 and 213 for a total of 745 series. Carter used a Track Rev Master ball, which was an older ball that he uses when lane conditions call for it. “I don’t guess I really need a new ball!” he noted with a smile, referring to a comment he had made a couple weeks ago about buying a new ball. After his final strike, cheers erupted from his teammates and the other bowlers who had gathered behind the lanes watching him. He was grinning from ear to ear as he exited the lane to meet the many bowlers waiting to greet him with congratulations. “On the last shot, I was very nervous as I got ready to throw it,” said Carter. “I’m just glad I got it on this league as this was grandpa’s team when he bowled.” Carter started league bowling in 1993 when he replaced his grandfather Frank Carman who had to quit because of failing health from cancer. When Carter’s mom, Alberta (who bowls on the same team with him) turned in the score sheet at the end of the night, she stated very excitedly, “Wouldn’t his grandpa have been proud of him?” Having bowled on leagues against Frank myself for many years and knowing his competitive nature on the lanes, I replied “Yes. He would be very proud of him!” Frank and his wife Lillian bowled for many years on the Men’s and Mixed Leagues here in Brandenburg. “Keith and Dad were very close and he would be pleased that Keith is carrying on the bowling tradition,” added a still proud mom during my conversation with her on Thursday. Carter, 32, currently bowls on two leagues in Brandenburg. He is averaging 200 on the Mixed League and 199 on the Men’s League. His previous high game was 288 with a career-high scratch series of 768. He carries a 210-book average from the 2005-06 seasons. He will receive a ring from the United States Bowling Congress in recognition of his achievement. Nancye and Gerry Lynn, owners of Lynn’s Pins will present him with an award of $100 and will place a plaque on the wall at the center in honor of his achievement. This was the 14th 300 game bowled at our local center and the second in less than a month. It took a very long period of time before the first 300 game was ever rolled at the lanes, but now it’s almost a monthly event. Gerry may have to clear a larger wall space to hang all the plaques as this season won’t officially end until late April 2007.
