Fun on the Richardson Farm

Photos by Vickey Carwile
Preschoolers from Muldraugh and Flaherty took a field trip to the farm of Homer Lee Richardson in Brandenburg on March 22. Some of these children had never seen a farm animal or are even aware of where meat comes from. Through the generosity of the the Richardson family – Homer Lee, his wife, Kay, son, Alex, and daughter, Lydia, the children were able to not only see, but to touch and pet several farm animals, most of which are hand-raised 4-H and FFA projects. The Richardsons also explained a little about each animal to the children. Some of the animals on display were a heifer named Pookie; a rabbit named Thumper; a chicken named Little Red; Dyson, the bottle-fed calf; a pig named Ashley; and Petie the goat and her two kids, Fungly Foehead and the other is not yet named. The Richardsons’ 1-year-old black Lab, Bo, was also on hand to meet and greet the children much to their delight.
