Get Moving, Meade County!

Extension Service kicked off Get Moving Meade County! April 12 during an afternoon registration event complete with goody bags. Approximately 60 people signed up during the kickoff event.

SkillsUSA Chapter represents Meade County well at state conference

While many students went on vacation during spring break, 17 SkillsUSA members and three advisers from the Meade County chapter spent most of their time participating in the 2007 Kentucky SkillsUSA Leadership Conference and Skills Championships. The event was held April 2-5 in Louisville with students and advisers housed at the Executive West Hotel and contests occurring at the Executive West and Jefferson Community and Technical College.

William Gerkins hits 20-gallon milestone

On April 12, William Gerkins of the Garrett community hit a milestone. He donated the pint that made for a total of 20 gallons of blood given over the span of five decades. After he left the service in 1956, Gerkins moved to the area and began working at Olin.

NCAA tournament bracket contest winners

The students pictured won the annual bracket contest in Mr. Carman’s science class at Stuart Pepper Middle School.

The most current textbook

The students in Amelia Morris’ class at Irvington Elementary School have been using the Meade County Messenger this school year as part of the Messenger’s Newspaper in Education program
