Special meeting set June 28 to possibly close current ethics complaint By LARRY SEE JR. A 6 p.m. June 28, special meeting has been established to possibly close an ongoing ethics complaint. The action came after an hour-long meeting of the Meade County Ethics Commission May 30. Committee Chairman Joanne Fitzgibbon said after the special meeting was held to clear up the current case, it could clear the way for members to move forward on a regular monthly meeting schedule. The June 28 meeting could be cancelled if necessary information isn’t forthcoming from the respondents, Fitzgibbon said. Prior to creating the special meeting, commission members, with Tara Powers, Joey Bewley and Lamar Jones absent, entered into a closed session to discuss the complaint. Accompanying the commission into the session were respondents Harold Davidson, county magistrate Herbie Chism and former county magistrate Jamie Staples. The session lasted about 50 minutes. Fitzgibbon said if the necessary information wasn’t forthcoming by June 28, they would take it up at their next meeting, planned for July 9 at 6 p.m. “I would like to establish a calendar of having a regular meeting,” Fitzgibbon said. “I also hope to solve the problem of attendance.” In the past, the commission has been plagued by poor attendance or being unable to acquire a quorum at meetings. By doing the regular meetings, Fitzgibbon said it would be easier to establish special meetings if necessary, or if the commission had no business, they could cancel them. Click Here to Go Back
