Meade County Farmers Market opens for the season

The Meade County Farmers Market is open for the season in the parking lot of Glad Tidings Christian Center. The market features a wide array of produce and prepared food items with offerings changing as spring flows into summer and summer drifts into autumn.

Fire and Iron KY 3 Station 33 on a Crusade for Children

The Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club KY 3 Station 33 held its third annual Crusade for Children poker run June 9. “We tried to have it the second weekend in May and got rained out twice,” said Station 33 vice president and Muldraugh firefighter Curtis Kelley. “So we went to June.”

And we have liftoff . . .

Pictured left is the space shuttle Atlantis as it lifted off from Cape Canaveral, Fla., at 7:38 p.m. June 8 on its 14-day mission to the International Space Station where it was expected to dock on Sunday, June 10.

Guston Days

It was a picture perfect day June 9 for the annual Guston Day festival. Those attending the event enjoyed temperatures in the low 80s with low humidity. The fesitivities began with a parade, followed by a baby contest, and beauty pageants.

Brandenburg Primary School will open Aug. 14

Construction continues on the 106,000-square-foot, 18 million-dollar building which will become Brandenburg Primary School. “Completion date on the project is Aug. 13 and 1/2,” said Meade County schools’ director of facilities Rodney Pickering with a laugh. The 2007-2008 school year starts Aug. 14.

He ain’t lyin’; he’s tellin’ a story

As part of the Meade County Public Library’s summer reading program, special programs are being offered each Friday during summer reading, open to all members of the public. On June 8, the special series opened with Mitch Barrett, singer-songwriter and storyteller.
