Disc golf tournament attracts upwards of 100 participants

In addition to the picnicers and those enjoying the weekend weather, nearly 100 disc golfers called Meade Olin Park home this weekend.

The 16th annual Brandenburg Open, otherwise known as the Larry Mehal Memorial Tournament, offered four rounds for competitors at the park’s field. Mehal was a good friend of event co-coordinator Eddie Whelan, and used to cook for the club during the tournaments.

Local angler to participate in Women’s Bassmaster Tour on Kentucky/Barkley lakes

Robertina Filburn, or “Dorothy Lee,” as her friends know her, has been fishing since she was a young child. The Vine Grove resident and retired music teacher fondly recalls fishing with her father, the late John R. Filburn, in a pond on their farm at the tender age of 3 or 4 years old. She proudly displays the scar from the wound she received while cleaning her first catfish at 5 years old.

Major League tournament comes to a close; A’s take title

The Major League division of Little League in Meade County came to a finish last week, as the A’s won the four-day tournament after receiving the top seed and a first-round bye.

Gary Long’s annual summer soccer camp will be held July 5-7, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Vine Grove Optimist Soccer Park.

Greenwaves host annual basketball camp

The Meade County basketball team held its annual camp for boys and girls last week, providing instruction to 101 campers at James R. Allen, David T. Wilson, and Stuart Pepper Middle School.

U-8 Fireballs

The U-8 Fireballs played at the U-10 level at the 2007 Inaugural Keltic Classic soccer tournament June 2 and 3. They played and won five games in one day and won the tournament to take first place.

U-13 Vipers girls’ competitive team ends the season with a bang!

On June 2, the Viper girls played Lexington Futbol Club (LFC) at home, winning in a 3-0 shutout.

The first score for the Vipers came in the 27th minute of the first half by Alexis Legaspi who put a shot low and to the center of the goal.
