OPINION

To the Messenger:

I’m writing this letter in reference to an article that was ran in your paper about a week ago. Yes, there is a problem with drugs in our county, but I think the most relevant one that we have the problem with is underage drinking. I have lived here in Meade for almost 15 years now. My oldest child has graduated from the school system.

NOTICE:
Burn ban in effect

By executive order of the Meade County judge executive:

There will be a burn ban in effect until there is enough rainfall to ease the fire danger. I also urge smokers to be careful about throwing lit cigarettes out of car windows or on dry grass. Ban will take effect Sept. 22, 2008, at 8 a.m.

Mail Letters to the Editor to P.O. Box 678, Brandenburg, Ky 40108; FAX to (270) 422-2110; E-mail to messenger@bbtel.com; hand deliver to 138 Broadway, Suite A, Brandenburg; or use the drop box by the front door after business hours.

Letters should be 300 words or less and concern an issue of public interest. Longer letters MAY be run at the discretion of the editorial staff or may be edited to fit.

They must be typed or printed legibly. The Messenger limits the frequency of Letters to the Editor to one per person within a 30-day period.

Letters may not contain slanderous remarks and all letters are printed at the discretion of the editor.

The writer's name, address and telephone number must be included.
We will, however, withhold the writer's name on request. A file of all letters to the editor will be kept for public inspection at the Messenger.

Submit words of thanks as paid advertisements.
