COMMUNITY NEWS So they want to be a chemist And they took a giant step toward their goal by participating in the fifth annual “You Be the Chemist” program of the Chemical Educational Foundation. According to their Web site, the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF) is a nationally recognized, award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing grades K-8 students’ exposure to science by emphasizing the central role of chemistry in everyday life. Two families are recognized with conservation award
Edd and John Pike, representing Henry Pike and Tom Hollis walked off with the master conservationist awards at the Meade County Conservation District annual meeting March 18. District technician Nathan Lind said the master conservationists are individuals who share an interest in the sustainability of Kentucky’s natural resources, and in becoming better stewards of the state’s resources. “They strive to make their land better equipped for production for themselves and for the next generations to follow,” he said. “They’re stewards of their land, and they work hard to keep conservation in mind in their daily operations. With these two awards tonight, we recognize two very deserving conservationists.” ‘Hunt the beast’ April 11 at Brandenburg outdoor expo Kentucky has a new hunting and fishing show that’s generating some high voltage enthusiasm around the state. The first annual “Huntin’ the Beast” outdoor expo is coming to Brandenburg, and with a name like that, you know it’s going be good. Whether the “beast” you’re pursuing is a monster whitetail, tenacious tom, killer coyote, or a lunker bass, this expo will have the gear and the experts you’ll want to see. Door prizes will be given away by numerous exhibitors all day long. There will also be a “big buck contest” covering Kentucky and Indiana.
