Boosters say farewell to swim coach

On Aug. 17, the Meade County Swim Boosters hosted a farewell barbecue at the Doe Valley swimming pool for outgoing coach J.P. LaVertu. In his 10th year at coaching the Meade County swim team, LaVertu accepted a teaching position at Simpsonville Elementary and will be the head swimming coach for Shelby County High School.

Lady Waves start the season with home victories

With 13 seniors, the sky is the limit for this Lady Wave soccer team. Coming off an 8-10 record last year, the Lady Waves returned eight starters and might be the most experienced team in the district.

“Most of these girls have been playing together since the beginning and with the program since their 7th-grade year,” Coach Dan Shook commented. “As a staff and as a team we have been preparing for a great year and I love the fact of how deep we are even in the JV ranks.”

Still building

Last year, the Lady Wave golf team struggled to find themselves on the winning end of many matches. This team, though, is not going to just lay down and die. Even though they lack experience on the golf course, Coach Rob Miller believes all of the girls have that extra something that can help them in clutch situations.

“Experience-wise, we are very young,” Miller commented. “But we are a very mature team with a good work ethic and drive to be as good as we can be.”

Is this the year?

After last year’s heartbreak at the regional tournament, the Meade County Greenwave golf team is preparing to make another run at the regional crown and a birth in the state tournament.

This year’s team returns two players with revenge in their minds – senior Tyler Yates and sophomore Chase Garris. Coach Josh Thompson believes that this year’s team success will be heavily burdened by the two returning men.
