Education in Kentucky was modeled after practices developed in the American Colonies formalized in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts. Plymouth Colony perpetuated educational theories and practices in effect in England. The first school law passed on the North American Continent was “The Old Deluder Satan Act,” enacted to teach students how to read, write and cipher as well as learn their catechism or religious doctrine.
