Hancock Stings Meade in OT

In sports, teams go on streaks, could be a winning streak that no one wants to end, or it could be a losing streak that everyone wants to end. For the Meade County Greenwave Basketball team, it was the latter. Meade has dropped their last four games but were looking for a bounce back in the Hornets’ nest against Hancock County on Jan 24. At the start of the game it looked as though Meade may have figured out an offense that would work on Hancock’s defense as they jumped out on top quickly. Meade racked up an eight-point lead before the midpoint of the first period, forcing Hancock to call a quick timeout. After the timeout Meade’s momentum continued to build as they crashed the boards for the put back, or drove the lanes for a layup. By the end of the first Meade had jumped out to a 13-point lead. At the start of the second period Meade’s lead began to slip away, as Hancock went on a 10-2 run by swarming the boards and grabbing rebounds. That run, and miscues by Meade, would allow Hancock to close the gap on Meade, forcing Coach Tripure to call a timeout. After the timeout Hancock continued to close on Meade, finishing the first half strong to grab a one-point lead when a Hancock player hit a 3-pointer with only 3.6 seconds left on the clock before the half.
