Greenwave wrestling takes fourth
place at Tsunami

The Meade County High School wrestling team invited teams from around Kentucky and Southern Indiana to compete in two days of brawling competition in their annual Tsunami on Dec. 22 and 23.

After having had two meets canceled due to the icy weather that hit Kentuckiana over the past few weeks – one with Central Hardin and a Dual at Seneca High School – the Greenwaves were anxious to get warmed up on their home mats.

In the first day of competition, the Greenwaves heated up quickly.

They opened up the first day of the invitational by defeating all four of their opponents.
Jeffersonville High School’s varsity and junior varsity teams were both knocked off by Meade.
Then, DeSales High School and Fort Knox High School were both dropped by the hosting Greenwaves giving the Greenwaves a 4-0 record in the opening day of play.

“We were on the attack and came out very aggressive,” Coach Bob Davis proclaimed of his team’s performance.

However, day two of the Tsunami would bring Oldham County, Ohio County, Holy Cross, and Mount Juliet high schools knocking on the Greenwaves’ door.

Meade County defeated both Holy Cross and Ohio County but came up short against Mount Juliet and Oldham County.

Oldham County – which the Greenwaves ousted earlier in the season – was undefeated in the tournament, claiming first place in the Tsunami.

A three-way tie for third was broken by Central Hardin High School and left the Greenwaves with a fourth-place finish.

Greenwave wrestlers, Cody Hoskins and Lance Kelly both finished the competition unbeaten and the group walked away with 10 more matches under their belts.

“We are still an inexperienced team,” Coach Davis explained. “But, the competition was tough and there were a lot of good matches this year. Anytime your guys can get 10 matches in two days, it’s a win.”
