John Lawrence Singleton, 78, Newport News, Va., formerly of Wolf Creek, died Sept. 7, 2008. He was born in Wolf Creek, the son of Lawrence and Fayme Singleton. He joined the U.S. Air Force after high school, served for 23 years and retired as a chief master sergeant. In 1971, he moved his family to Newport News, Va., which remained his home. He worked at NASA as an electrical engineer for 20 years. He received an MBA from William and Mary, a BS from the University of New Mexico and a Certificate of Christian Ministry from Boyce Bible College. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Kay Singleton and Katherine Ann Johnson. Mr. Singleton is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Singleton; two daughters, Amy (Clay) Fogler, Richmond, Va., and Joyce Singleton, Newport News, Va.; brothers and sisters and their spouses, Chester and Betty Singleton, Guston, Eunice Pollock, Battletown, Ruth and Elijah Addison, Battletown, and Virginia Vandiver, Radcliff; Ethel and Terry Newton, Indiana, and Jessie Singleton, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Larry Johnson, Whitmire, S.C., Nathan, Caleb and Anna Fogler, Richmond, Va.; and a special niece, Martha Martin, Brandenburg. A celebration of life service was held Sept. 10 from Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment was in Parklawn Memorial Park.
