JOHN EDWARD MITCHELL
John Edward Mitchell, 74, Flaherty, died Oct. 2, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
His memberships included St. Martin of Tour Catholic Church in Flaherty, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and AMVETS. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, an avid fan of NASCAR and the University of Kentucky. Mr. Mitchell led his high school team – the Flaherty Blue Devils – to a district championship in 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ella Mae Mitchell; three brothers, Albert Lee Mitchell, William F. Mitchell, Marion Joseph Mitchell; and a granddaughter, Jamie Nicole Proctor.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dixie Lea Mitchell, Flaherty; a daughter, Cynthia (Ron) Koch, Savannah, Ga.; three sons, John Christopher Mitchell, Francis Todd Mitchell, Mark (Linda) Mitchell, all of Flaherty; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty, with the Rev. A.L. Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors.
Friends and family may call at the Coffey and Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove, from 5 until 8 p.m. Oct. 6 and after 9 a.m. Oct. 7. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Oct. 6, at the funeral home.
