JUDGE WILLIAM
ARTHUR LAMKIN JR.

Judge William Arthur Lamkin Jr., 96, died May 7, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Meade County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Lamkin Sr. and Jane McCoy Lamkin; and four brothers, Eugene Henry Lamkin, the Rev. Thomas Walter Lamkin, the Rev. Adrian Lamkin and Nelson Lamkin.

Judge Lamkin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn Jean Russell Lamkin; four children, Elaine Lamkin, Louisville, William Arthur Lamkin III, Broomfield, Colo.; Jane (Bob) Fausz, Louisville, and Nancy (Cliff) Birdsong, Lexington; a brother, Howard Lamkin, Evansville, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

He was the principal of Meade County Elementary School, a member of the legislature in 1942 and a volunteer for the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was appointed a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a trustee of the Kentucky Baptist Foundation, a trustee of Cumberland College and a trustee of the Kentucky Independent College Foundation, a longtime member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and adult Sunday School teacher.
Funeral services were held May 12, at the Hurstbourne Baptist Church. Burial was in Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Pearson Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home in Louisville.
