JAMES ‘JIM’ KENDALL

James “Jim” Kendall, 100, died July 9, 2010. He was born in Meade County on March 2, 1910, the fourth child of John Wesley and Mae Jane Anderson Kendall.

There were six children in the family, five boys and one girl. James lived and grew up on the family farm located on the Salem-Guston Road outside of Guston. His father was a blacksmith with a shop on the family farm and a farmer, with cattle, turkeys, tobacco and corn crops.

He served in World War II in England and Europe as a tech sergeant. He was a surgical technician in a general hospital, was awarded a Bronze Star for his duty in Europe. He worked at Fort Knox until he retired.

He married Mary Belle Stith, Sept. 12, 1936. She died March 28, 1983. He married Janie B. Stewart, Nov. 18, 1991. She died Nov. 3, 1997.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lon B., Dr. William Fred, Abraham Daniel and Benjamin Leslie; and a sister, Mabel Kendall Dugan (David Howard).
Mr. Kendall is survived by two children from his first marriage, Dr. James L. (Barbara Jean Coffey) Kendall and Wesley D. (Diana Lynn Elmore) Kendall; three stepchildren, Philip (Crystal) Stewart, Betty (Denny) Dennis and Janet Sommers; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 12, from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Irvington.
