WILLIAM F. ‘BILL’ DETTMAN

William F. “Bill” Dettman, 74, Ekron, died Dec. 5, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, with his loving wife, children and grandchildren by his side. He was born July 11, 1936, the son of Louis Frederick and Katherine Helen Spier Dettman.

He was a member of Ekron Baptist Church, a wood craftsman, loved to fish and play golf, was the annual horseshoe champion of the Dettman family reunion, and chose to spend his retirement assisting his son and his son’s father at Hager Funeral Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Eugene “Gene” Dettman; and a grandson, David Scot Ross.

Mr. Dettman is survived by his wife, Marilyn Stephens Dettman; four children, Diana Kae Dettman, Maumee, Ohio, William F. “Bill” (Christina) Dettman, II, South Bend, Ind., Heather S. (Chris) White, Indianapolis, Ind., Rhonda L. (Billy) Adams, Brandenburg; two sisters, Helen (John) Griffin, LaPorte, Ind., and Judie (Dean) Luther, Crawfordsville, Ind., a sister-in-law, Diane Dettman, Rocky Mount, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Brittany Marie Ross-Long, Natasha Nikole Stephens-Zumwalt, Indianapolis, Ind., Daniel Wooftdr, William F. “B.J.” Dettman, III, South Bend, Ind., Alexa Azhae Adams, Jesse Lynn Adams, Brandenburg, Matthew Allen Dettman, Louis Karl Dettman, South Bend, Ind.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Dec. 9, from the chapel of Hager Funeral Home. Burial was in Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association to honor

Bill’s mother and mother-in-law, who were both lost to this disease.
