HOWARD MCELROY SR.
Howard McElroy Sr., 82, Vine Grove, died Dec. 9, 2010. He was born Sept. 2, 1928, in Westfield, Ala., the son of Josephus and Addie Lizzie McElroy.
He served his country honorably and with sacrifice and retired as a sergeant first class, after completing 22 years of service for the Army. He completed two tours in Vietnam and a tour in Korea. His contributions to his family as well as the country will not be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Annie Lee Baker.
Mr. McElroy is survived by his children, Robert (Carolyn) McElroy, Stockton, Calif., Earlene (Johnny) Jemison, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Gloria (Clifford) Ross, Jacksonville, Fla., Leslie (Edward) Williams, Hinesville, Ga., Elizabeth Van Horn, Elizabethtown, Howard (Mary) J. McElroy, Elizabethtown, and Sherita (Christopher) Lynch, Cedar Park, Texas; two sisters, Mildred Havard, Farmington Hills, Mich., and Leslie Brown, Texas. As a loving and supportive grandparent, he leaves behind 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home, 2072 S. Dixie Blvd. in Radcliff. Burial will be in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff, with military honors.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home Dec. 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
