To the Messenger:

There has been some discussion recently regarding cleanup of the Derby Tank Car site and announcements made about how quickly it will be done and who is single-handedly responsible for action being taken. As the mayor of Ekron and a concerned citizen of Meade County, I have worked for many years with representatives of various agencies to effect a cleanup of the former Derby Tank Car.

As for my being on a committee to address the Derby Tank Car issue, I was recently contacted by Magistrate Harold Davidson regarding his request that I be appointed to a committee. Since then, I have received no other communication, nor have I been advised of any committee meetings.

While I appreciate any and all efforts to address this issue, I want the citizens of Meade County to understand the chemical cleanup at Derby Tank Car has been and continues to be an ongoing effort thanks to an excellent project manager, Nathan Hancock, and those overseeing this operation from the beginning. This work was not kick-started by any one individual.

Gwynne Ison
Mayor, City of Ekron
