America is built upon a unique principle “Of the people, by the people.” Many Americans are questioning the truth of this statement. This is supported by the yearly decline of people who turn out to vote on Election Day. The students in Tori Morgan’s 5th-grade class at David T. Wilson Elementary School are not yet old enough to vote, but they are already learning the importance of taking part in the democratic process. Take a page from their books and cast your ballot on May 16.
To the Messenger:
People all over the United States will be voting for their future president, mayor, governor and other people to do good things for mankind.
Some reasons to vote are: you can be helpful to your city, community, and the United States. I think everyone in the United States should vote (that is if you are at least 18 or older) because it is an advantage other people in different countries may not participate in.
If you don’t know anything about the president or officials, then you can get a brochure about them. I think it’s the right choice to vote. When you vote, you have a chance that he will be elected.
Now you know why you should vote, so do the right thing and VOTE!
Shawn Smith, David T. Wilson Elementary School
To the Messenger:
Our government and the Constitution gives us the right to vote for who we want to vote for. If we didn’t have that right, we wouldn’t be able to vote for the person we think is good enough to run our nation and our government. If we don’t vote, we won’t have enough votes to decide on who we want to be president. If we don’t vote, we don’t get to choose who we think is the best person for president.
We fought for the rights to vote, and now we have that right. So if we don’t vote, how will we know if we get the person we want for president or our officials? Not everyone is going to vote for the one we want, or the one who we hate and despise might become the person who will become president.
In other words, what we should do is vote or we won’t get the chance to get what we want and some laws we hate might be passed by that person.
Travis Brown, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Meade County Citizens,
Do you want to have a say in your government? Well, you can! All you have to do is vote!
A reason to vote is because it is your duty as American citizens to vote. You can elect the candidates from your political party to lead the national government.
It is the right choice to vote! Just think about all the people that fought to vote. Just think! You’re throwing away all the things those people fought for.
To find out who to vote for, listen to the radio stations; look at the signs, and even sections in the newspapers. Candidates usually pass out buttons, pencils, and more.
Now you know what to do, get out to those polls, and vote! Remember, you have to be 18 years or older.
Zach Bogard, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Citizens of Meade County,
Voting is very important. Everyone older than 18 has the right to vote and should vote.
What are some reasons to vote? A reason to vote is that the past few years not as many people have wanted to vote. So we haven’t been getting as many responses from the voter elections. Another reason to vote is that you have the right and privilege to vote and you should take that privilege.
How do you get to know the person that is running for something? The way you get to know that person is by getting brochures, bumpers stickers, pins, and cups. These items spread the news about the person. Listen to the candidates!
Those are my answers to the questions and my reasons to vote!
Emily Rice, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Meade County,
Voting is very important! It is a privilege because many other countries don’t have a choice of who their leader is. In our country, we have a democracy. We need to take an active role in our government and vote. You must be eighteen years or older to vote. Women used to not be able to vote, but now they can, too.
Why should we vote? We should vote so that our government isn’t messed up. If only one person voted for the candidate no one liked and he/she became the president, our country could become very messed up. Some people don’t vote because they don’t know anything about the people running. To get to know the candidates, you can listen to the radio or watch the news. Most candidates advertise with commercials, stickers, buttons, bumper stickers, and some even do brochures.
Knowing this, please take advantage of our privileges and vote.
A future voter,
Leah Cannady, David T. Wilson Elementary
Dear Citizens,
Listen up! Our voting is going down the hill! It is no big deal to vote, just go to the courthouse or your voting area to cast your vote. Yeah, I know there may be a terrible long line, but who cares!
Ways to make your thinker think. If nobody voted, then our country could possibly become communist. That’s bad! Take advantage of voting, lots of countries don’t even have the right to vote. Dictators tell them what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. Trust me, voting is a privilege. You should not only vote for the county candidates, but also the president.
Also, if you see signs and stickers in cars; those are ads so you can vote for that person. Candidates are the people that you vote for. Think of it, you have an entire year to think of who you are going to vote for. If you are a Democrat, you should vote for a Democrat candidate. Some people vote for Republican.
Listen up! I hope I have encouraged you. We all should vote!
NOT a half--
NOT a quarter--
NOT a third--
ALL of us should vote!!!!
Devin Hardy, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Citizens of Meade County,
The people of the United States have the right to vote, but over the years more people have been neglecting to vote. I think voting is a very important privilege in our government. I think that if you’re old enough to vote, you should!
One reason you should vote is that the candidate that wins could change your life. I think you should go out and support your government. You should watch their persuasive speeches on television or listen to the radio. It’s the citizens of America’s duty to go out and vote and I think we should respect that privilege and go out and vote at the polls.
The second reason I think we should vote is that we should stand up and make our country proud because some countries don’t even have the right to vote. We have the choice to be a Democrat or Republican and other countries would just be happy to have a little say in their government. I think we take for granted our right to vote.
So, I think we should get out there and elect our representatives, have a say in our government, and make our country look proud!
Jessie Arnold, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Meade County Citizens,
Voting plays a very big role in our lives. Voting is important because you get to choose who runs your county.
Here are some reasons why voting is important. Many years ago, women didn’t even get to vote. It is a privilege to vote. You should be proud to get to cast your vote.
Did you know that to vote, you only have to be 18 years or older? You also have to be a registered voter. That is all you need to do in order to vote. You might be a Democrat or Republican or even a Third Party voter.
Those are the reasons why you should vote. Don’t forget, the many different spots open in Meade County that we can vote for.
Maya Luney, David T. Wilson Elementary School
Dear Meade County Citizens,
It is very important to take an active role in government because it is a privilege when you turn 18. Voting is a hard decision, so listen to what the candidates have to say. Think about what they said and which one you like the best, then vote for that candidate.
When you vote you have to be a citizen of the United States. There are multiple decisions. Women couldn’t vote for a long time, but now they can vote just like men can. If you are not a Democrat or a Republican, then you are considered a Third Party. When you elect representatives, you vote at the polls.
The United States is a democracy, which means that we can vote if want to. In other countries, some people are even Communist. A Communist means that the government makes the decisions for you.
It is our duty and right to vote!
Natalie Heibert, David T. Wilson Elementary School
