The Meade County tennis teams competed against North Hardin on May 4, and the Lady Waves picked up a 3-2 win, while the Greenwaves fell 1-4 to the Trojans.

Senior Danae Powers (#1 singles) lost to Amy Edwards 1-6, 2-6, and senior Sarah Fisher (#2 singles) was defeated by Stephanie McGray 1-6, 2-6 to put the Lady Waves down 0-2 in the match.

The Lady Waves’ chances looked to be in jeopardy with Kate Dailey (#3 singles) down 4-7 in her proset match, but the sophomore battled back to win five straight games, taking the victory 9-7.

“I am especially proud of Kate,” said Lady Wave coach Maike Bates. “She picked up a big win for the team, and is such a fighter on the court.”

Seniors Natalie Hart and Kayla Roe (#1 doubles) won against Nina Debibar and Jennifer Lane 6-1, 6-1 to tie the match at 2-2.

Juniors Annmarie Givans and Megan Wright then defeated Kate McGuire and Anne Oevsthus 6-4, 6-2 as Meade finished their comeback for the win over the Lady Trojans.

“All my doubles teams did an excellent job today,” said Bates. “They communicated well with each other and made things happen on the court.”

The Greenwaves would have no luck in singles play against the Trojans as freshman Jonah Cundiff (#1 singles) lost to Derek deRoche 0-6, 7-6, 1-6, senior Nick Templin (#2 singles) was defeated by Marcus Murphy 1-6, 1-6, and junior Allan Basham (#3 singles) lost to Cory Zilisch, 4-6.

Seniors Chris Frazier and Justin Hubbard (#2 doubles) were defeated 3-6, 4-6 by T.J. West and Chris Hobbs, but senior Adam Arwood and freshman Mike West (#1 doubles) were victorious over Manny Arroya and Camerson West 6-1, 6-7, 6-4, giving the Greenwaves their lone match win of the day.

After hosting Fort Knox on May 9, the Meade County tennis teams prepare for regional tournament play May 15-16.
