Christmas by the River gets in gear for 2006
By KAREN KENNEDY
Messenger Staff
Christmas by the River – an annual tradition in Brandenburg – is formulating its plans and inviting more groups to come out and participate this year. The event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24.
The festival includes a light parade, which begins at 6 p.m. at St. John Church and continues to the gazebo by the river. Businesses who would like to sign up for participation in the parade should do so by Nov. 15.
If there is enough interest this year, a daylong craft fair will also be held along Main Street from noon to 5 p.m. This hasn’t been done for the past couple of years, but the event organizers are willing to bring it back if enough people would like to participate. If the craft fair is revitalized, there will also be food vendors at the fair to provide food and refreshments throughout the day.
For church groups and anyone else interested in performing at the Christmas by the River festival, there will be a special place set up for these performances, which could be musical or theatrical in nature, throughout the day.
The fireworks display will be held soon after dark, as the parade reaches the riverbank. Following the magnificent fireworks show, the Christmas light displays down by the river will be lit at approximately 7 p.m. Children of all ages may visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the gazebo following the light-up.
Hot chocolate and cider will be provided by Fort Knox Federal Credit Union.
Anyone interested in participating in the parade or craft fair should contact event organizer Amy Haynes at Brandenburg City Hall at 422-4981.
