The Meade County Conservation District held its monthly meeting with supervisors John Bruington, Henry Pike, Jim Scott, Jack King, Joe Barger and Nathan Beavin in attendance.

Following approval of minutes and the treasurer’s report, John Bruington discussed two conference calls planned by the National Association of Conservation Districts staff and district officials. The conference calls are to be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 13. The agenda for the conference calls includes: national officers’ comments, 2007 Farm Bill activities, convention in Los Angeles, state officers’ comments and update from Kentucky Association of Conservation Districts, and the Conservation District’s legislative agenda for 2007 –General Assembly session. The board opted not to participate in the conference calls this year but will receive the information and updates as they are published.

The 50-50 cost share worker was again discussed, and the feasibility of such a person for Meade County is still being explored.

Two completed applications for the forage (soil testing) program were received and approved for payment by the board.

Calvin Bohannon indicated a state conservationist has not yet been hired but assured the board that field work will be completed. B.J. Stith will be moving his headquarters to Breckinridge County, and this move will leave Meade County somewhat short-handed. Stith hopes to spend three days each week in Meade County, one day in Grayson County, and one day in Breckinridge County.
