During the July 10 meeting of the Meade County School Board, Rodney Pickering provided an update of the two major projects currently underway.
Construction at the high school is currently focused on getting the classrooms, office, lobby, hallways and restrooms useable for the start of school. Work on the auditorium and addition will continue while school is in session next fall.
Roofing on the primary school is 95 percent complete. The brick is 100 percent finished. Pickering said he anticipates the site work will be ready, and the classrooms will be 99 percent ready on the first day of school. The media center and gym area will be finished shortly after school starts, and the kitchen should be ready to turn over to the staff Aug. 1. The HVAC contractor originally hired for the project went out of business, and local contractor Lusk Mechanical stepped in and took over where the other contractor left off. The mechanical and electrical engineers have reviewed the building and stated they were satisfied with the quality of the work.
