A group of residents met July 12 to chart Meade County’s future.
The process, when completed, will result in what is expected to be the first revision of the county’s comprehensive master plan, first proposed, but not adopted by Fiscal Court, in January 2005.
Area businesses, the water district, schools, Chamber of Commerce, political parties and the county RECC were represented at the session, forming the steering committee which will oversee the project.
According to a proposed project schedule, the county Fiscal Court is scheduled to adopt the plan in mid-February, following a second public presentation.
Attending the initial meeting were Rena Singleton, Steve Beckham, Mitch Crump, Mildred Brown, Mickey Chism, Lawrence Sechrist, Amy Humphrey, Joe Bartley, Gerry Lynn, Wendy Wright, Josh Hornbeck, Russ Powell, Faye Basham, Tim Gossett, Bobby Hamilton, Rob Pack, Rebecca Richardson, Sonja Redmon and Barbara Campbell.
The facilitators were Tom West and Amy Williams of HNTB.
HNTB, based in Louisville, with offices throughout the country, has an extensive urban design and planning portfolio.
“The objective of a comprehensive plan is to establish a long-term community vision which defines the quantity of growth, quality of growth and location of growth that the community desires,” noted HNTB representatives.
Public input and its different concepts are sought at a meeting, tentatively planned for Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Flaherty Elementary School.
