Greenwaves sink Trojans for middle school championship
After the first game of the middle school football season, Coach Gery Whelan had reason to worry about the upcoming season for the Stuart Pepper Middle School (SPMS) traveling football squad. His team had just lost the opening game to Moss Middle School from Bowling Green. This first game was played without the benefit of any previous scrimmage games, and his players, their skills and how they would react to adversity were complete unknowns.

Senior night ends with victory for Lady Wave volleyball
In every athlete’s life, moments in their career are turning points. On the evening of Sept. 27, a poignant career moment was shared by five members of the Meade County volleyball team – Lydia Curran, Morgan Filburn, Melinda Hurt, Megan McGehee and Brittini Schmidt – as they participated in senior night at MCHS. This evening marked the last time they would play a home game in front of their family, friends and fans.

Greenwaves clip Eagles’ wings
At the half of the Meade County Greenwave/Owensboro Apollo football game, Coach Larry Mofield was not a happy camper. The score was 7-7, and he felt time of possession was in Apollo’s favor and that his players were not playing up to their potential. He told his troops, “Apollo was ready to play from the gun; you were not ready when you got off the bus!” His assessment of the situation was right on. The Greenwave attitude in the first half was somewhat lackadaisical, as reflected by senior running back Nick Stinnet, after the game, but he also said the team rallied really well in the second half and shut down the Eagles on their home field.

Muldraugh Elementary hosts annual Cross Country Invitational
On Sept. 20 Muldraugh Elementary School held its annual Cross Country Invitational. With the temperature looming around 90 degrees, runners from Muldraugh (M), Ekron (E), Battletown (B), West Point (W), Payneville (P), and Flaherty (F) joined to race.

The 7th-grade Lady Waves hosted the Spartans from Radcliff Middle School Sept. 24 in front of a capacity crowd.

Lady Waves defeat Lady Bruins
On Sept. 25, the Lady Wave volleyball team beat the Central Hardin Bruins, adding another win to a spectacular season with the 19-25, 27-29 game.

Drought ends for Brandenburg bowler Larry Curts
The rainstorms last week brought smiles to area farmers and Brandenburg bowler Larry Curts.
Curts, on Monday night broke a personal 40-year drought by bowling his first career 300 game at Lynn’s Pins. The 12 strikes came during the last game of league play on the Monday Night Mixed League, allowing him to finish with scores of 189 and 153 initially before bowling the 300 game, culminating in a 642 series.
