Twice is nice! Meade defeats Nelson for district championship

Last Friday night Meade County High School hosted Nelson County High School for the District Championship. Nelson had beaten Bowling Green’s Greenwood High School the week previous, and has been averaging over 40 points per game. Against Greenwood they totaled more than 460 rushing yards against the number-one seeded Gators.

Greenwave wrestling: Great expectations

The sport of wrestling, not to be confused with television entertainment wrestling, is a highly technical, physical sport, and it takes years to develop into a competent competitor. Last year the Greenwaves placed fifth in the 13-team 3rd Region and took eight players and two alternates to state. While fifth may seem middle of the pack, what is remarkable is that this was the first year that Meade County fielded a wrestling team. Ever! All 10 wrestlers who went to state return, so the future looks bright for the team.

Successful basketball season ends in semifinals for 7th-grade Lady Waves

On Nov. 13, the 7th-grade Lady Wave basketball team played, for the third time this season, the Radcliff Middle School 7th-grade girls team in the semifinals of the Middle School Athletic Conference’s tournament. Both of the previous meetings had been squeakers, with Meade winning the first game at home 34-30, and Radcliff winning on their home court 30-29.

Can Greenwaves repeat as district champs?

When asked about graduation losses, Coach Gerry Garris stated, “We’ve lost our leading scorer, leading rebounder, assist leader, leading shot blocker, steal leader, best three-point shooter and second highest field goal percentage shooter from last year’s squad.” From these losses, you would think men’s basketball in Meade County would be undergoing a rebuilding year.
