Newton Road speeders beware:
Fiscal Court backs speed limit reduction
By LARRY SEE JR.

Narrow Newton Road in Magistrate Mark Hubbard’s district will soon have a reduced speed limit.
During a special called Dec. 4 meeting, members unanimously endorsed the request to reduce the speed along the road from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour.
Hubbard explained since Newton Road is a county road, the speed limit was already established at the higher limit, but since it was so narrow, residents living along it requested the reduction.
Without discussion, the matter was unanimously approved.
Members were supposed to hold the first reading of a proposed solid waste franchise ordinance, but due to some last-minute wording changes, delayed action on it.
Members of the solid waste and recycle advisory committee met earlier with County Attorney Margaret Matney and made some suggested changes.
The first reading was expected during a special called meeting planned Dec. 10.
“I think we can have the first reading at a later date when we all have had a chance to look at it,” county Judge Executive Harry Craycroft said.
In other business, members:
• Held a work session to discuss road service districts. Several ideas were brought forth and further discussion was expected during another session Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
• Agreed to reschedule their regular Dec. 11 meeting to Dec. 18. Craycroft sought the postponement since he’ll be attending Governor-Elect Steve Beshear’s inauguration and ball in Frankfort on Dec. 11.
