Meade well-represented in All-State Choir

Meade County was well-represented recently, when a number of Stuart Pepper Middle School and Meade County High School students were named to the Junior All-State and Senior All-State choirs.

California and the Meade County connection

Everyone knows California has been a source of gold, mining, shipping, produce and industry for over 150 years. John Steinbeck, in his book, “The Grapes of Wrath,” wrote about the migration of Americans to California in the late 1920s due to the drought and weather conditions in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, coupled with declining farm prices and the collapse of the stock market. Times were hard during this period of well-documented migration, but there is a little-known migration that began some 25 or more years earlier in which many citizens from Meade and Breckinridge counties made the trek to California long before the Depression began.
