Greenwaves upend Trojans

On a dark, cold January evening Jan. 8, the scoring temperatures of both North Hardin and Meade County reflected the wintry weather outside. Both shot quite cold! Meade County shot an abysmal 16 of 44 from the field, which equals 36.4 percent for the game. However, the Trojans were even worse: 17 of 51 from the field for 33.5 percent. The poor shooting could not be blamed on the weather, but rather the tenacious defense played by both squads. Each squad played good defense throughout the game; North using its athletic abilities versus Meade’s hard-nosed, in-your-face style of play.

On the road again and again

On Jan. 12, the Greenwave basketball team went down the road to visit former 17th District foe John Hardin. The Bulldogs are almost a mirror image of the North Hardin Trojans the Greenwaves defeated last week: tall, quick and very athletic – and a nemesis to the Greenwave team. Since leaving the 17th District, Meade County High School has lost only two games to 17th District teams, both to John Hardin.

Meade defeats Corydon 68-9 in interstate rivalry

Prior to the Jan. 8 wrestling match with Corydon, Ind., Coach Bob Davis said he wanted this to become a yearly event and promote an interstate rivalry between Meade County wrestlers and our neighbors to the north. “It’s a state thing,” he said. “They’re well coached and a good team. It’s a good thing.” He then returned to practice with a “SHOOT – SPRAWL – GET AROUND!” that had the Meade County Grapplers shooting, sprawling and getting around with a vengeance. This team was going to be prepared for an interstate match, if it killed them.
