MCHS dance team – 3rd Region champs!
The temperatures outside may have been miserable Jan. 19, but inside Ohio County High School the Meade County High School dance team heated things up with their flawless routine.

Meade Represents Region 3 at State Wrestling Duals
The State Wrestling Dual Championship was held Jan. 27 at Henry Clay High School in Lexington. Sixteen teams representing the eight regions in the state competed for the state team championship; 224 wrestlers competed, but each team brought replacement personnel in case someone was injured.

Greenwave swimmers take second at Shelby school records just keep on falling!
The Meade County High School girls’ and boys’ teams keep improving meet after meet, and they have the broken records, both school and individual to prove it. On Jan. 27, the team ventured to Shelby County to participate in the 2008 Shelby County Invitational. Forty-one teams (22 girls, 19 boys) were vying for individual as well as team honors.

Lady Waves clinch #1 seed in district
Win over Breckinridge County gives Lady Waves regular season 11th District title
The Meade County Lady Waves looked to extend their winning streak to five games Thursday night when the Lady Tigers of Breckinridge County came to Brandenburg. Both teams were at the top of the district standings with Meade County coming in at 4-0 and Breckinridge County at 3-1. Breckinridge County’s only defeat in district play came over a month ago, Dec. 7, when the same Meade County team defeated the Lady Tigers 56-42 in Harned.

MCHS Wrestlers win final home stand
Last Wednesday evening, the Greenwave wrestling team held their last home meet of the season against Bullitt Central. “They are a good team, and well coached” said Coach Bob Davis, “They are really good in some weight divisions.”

Troy Jobe continues his winning ways
On Jan. 19, the Meade County swim team traveled to Danville to participate in the Boyle County Invitational. Seven teams competed for team and individual honors. Troy Jobe, the Meade County record holder in every swimming event, won the two events in which he was entered; the boys’ 200-yard individual medley and the boys’ 100-yard backstroke. He was the only team member to take home a gold medal from this meet. However, the team did bring home both silver and bronze. No other male swimmers were in the top three; however Alex Medley had a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke and a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Overall the boys’ team place third in the invitational.

Knutson swims her way to three gold medals in Australia
Dagny Knutson, daughter of Ronda Davis Knutson (Meade County High School Class of 1978) traveled to Melbourne, Australia in early January to compete with (and against) 35 other girls on the USA Junior National team in the prestigious Victorian swimming championships. Even though the junior team is made up of women 15 and under, Ms. Knutson swam in open events against (and with) women of all ages. The photo shows Dagny with her three teammates after winning the Gold medal for the 800-meter freestyle relay. Ms. Knutson just turned 16 on Jan. 18 but won her gold medals as a 15-year-old. Kate Ziegler is the U.S. record holder in the women’s 800- and 1500-meter freestyle events.
