Residents and business owners affected by the Feb. 5-6 storms which struck Meade County will have a chance to speak with Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives this week.
A mobile disaster recovery unit will set up shop through Saturday, or until all affected residents are seen. Hours at the county fairgrounds are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to county emergency management director Ron Dodson.
The trailer is situated on the large paved parking lot adjacent to the Farm Bureau Community Building.
FEMA public information officer William Lindsey said in addition to FEMA representatives, members of the Small Business Administration are also in the trailer.
All are prepared to give answers to disaster questions, information about state and federal programs, assistance with completing paperwork and rebuilding tips and advice.
Dodson stressed residents need to apply for assistance before visiting the trailer either online at www.fema.gov or by calling toll free (800) 621-3362.
After supplying the necessary information, participants will receive a FEMA application number, which should be brought to the unit.
“That means you’ll have a case file started and they’ll be able to assist you with any questions that you may have,” Dodson said.
Residents are asked to bring copies of pictures, insurance documents or other information which may be useful to FEMA personnel.
Dodson also said, even if residents have minimal damage or think they had no damage at all, if you were along the storm’s path, register anyway, as some damage, such as foundation cracks, may not be apparent immediately.
Appointments aren’t necessary, Dodson said.
Federal funding became available following a major disaster declaration which was signed by President George Bush
. The trailer was in Hardin County last week assisting those residents with claims.
