Meade County participates in Eastern Relays
Meade County Coach Larry Garner took only six members of his track team to the Eastern Relays held April 25 and 26 at Cardinal Park in Louisville. Mathew Popham represented the boys’ team while Tiffany Brown, Jessie Morgan, Marley Stanfield, Shelby Jenkins and Jaci Reardon represented the girls. Teams from all over the state of Kentucky, one from Indiana and one from Evanston Township, Ill., were in town to compete in one of the premier track and field events held in the state.

Lady Waves and Greenwaves ride ups and downs on the tennis court
With the weather finally conducive to playing tennis, the Meade County boys’ and girls’ tennis teams looked to gain some valuable experience with the district and regional tournaments looming in the near future.

Meade hosts archery invitational
Meade County NASP Archery Boosters held an invitational tournament on Saturday, April 19. Approximately 80 archers attended, which included students from four counties. First place winner in the male high school division was Dylan Decker, from James R. Allen Academy with a score of 245. First place female high school division went to Meade County High School’s Courtney Campbell with a score of 296. James R. Allen Academy took the remainder of the high school awards starting with Amber Kessinger placing second with a score of 285. Third-place winner Ashley Knott shot a 273 while Aurora Lasley followed with a 266. Marissa Moorman finished fifth with a 265.

Lady Waves win two, lose two in tough week
Lady Wave softball was in action April 18-19 when Meade County traveled to Corbin to play in the Cumberland Falls Invitational. Meade County won their first two games against winless Tates Creek High School, 15-0, and two-win Fairdale High School, 4-0. Then the Lady Waves lost to Lawrence County 6-1 to end their run in the tournament. Usually going 2-1 in a tournament can have positive effects, but the Meade County coaching staff was disappointed in their overall performance.

Greenwaves come up short against Tigers
April 22 at the Hardinsburg Sports Complex, the Meade County baseball ball team started off the game with a bang. Lead off hitter Corey Bruce hit a long home run to center for a trip around the bases and the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, the Tigers answered with three runs of their own and took the lead.

Meade County tennis team fight local competition at Lincoln Heritage Conference Tournament
With only weeks away from the regional tournament, the Meade County Greenwave and Lady Wave tennis teams stormed the court in the two-day, single elimination Lincoln Heritage Conference Tournament April 24 and 25. The 84-player, 52-match, seven-school tournament brought all the area teams with aspirations of a conference championship.

Greenwaves drop another
Meade County baseball coach Daren Snell was guardedly optimistic at the beginning of last Friday’s game against North Hardin. Just the day before, they dropped a close game 6-5 to a very good Grayson County squad in which they led most of the game. “We pitched really well, and were pretty good defensively,” said Snell before the North Hardin game. North came into the game with a 2-14 record, so he had good reason to look for a victory.
