Option extended 90 days for industrial park parcel

An option for about 400 acres of land at the industrial park site was extended for another 90 days last week.

Following a 45-minute closed session during the Meade County/Brandenburg Industrial Development Authority’s special called May 7 meeting, members unanimously agreed to extend the option.

This is the second 90-day extension granted, IDA Chairman David Pace said. The option can be signed anytime within those 90 days.

The firm is expected to pay $25,000 per acre for the parcel.

“I think the company will be ready to do a press release and meet with the media on a one-to-one basis during the second 90-day period,” Pace said following the board’s closed session.

Pace has been hesitant to release further details about the firm, adding the full disclosure would come at a later date.

He has said the firm has completed their due diligence and met with the appropriate parties, including the Riverport and Meade County Energy.

“There is a good potential for all of them to work together. This industry will easily fit in with what is going on out there,” Pace said earlier.

Pace also reported this will mean the entire industrial park acreage will have been sold.

In a related matter, members discussed possibly adopting a recommendation made by a 2005 Meade County Area Chamber of Commerce leadership group to name something at the Riverport after the late Magistrate Ronnie Greenwell.

Magistrate Herbie Chism thought there was a previous Fiscal Court recommendation that the road leading into the park be named after Greenwell.

Pace said the Authority needed to establish what they wanted, whether it be a road or a sign.

“Ronnie put a lot of effort into this,” Pace said. “the Riverport would not be where it is today without his efforts.”

“We need to do something in his memory,” Chism said.

Members also heard a legislative update from state Rep. Jeff Greer, learned work is progressing on a machine shop building and the Corum Industrial Park sign was replaced following removal by Bypass construction crews.
